Day 2 - Check out and morning visit to Hampton Court Palace. Return to school

The Museum of London

An exciting and interesting history of London from the bronze & iron age, through Roman times right up to 1914 just prior to the First World War.

Britain at War Experience

Visitors to the museum experience life during one of the most important events of the 20^th century.  The museum includes a BBC radio station, shelter, artifacts and a host of special effects which ads to the extensive information provided about lives of everyday citizens and the era’s leaders.

The British Museum

A public museum dedicated to human history covers all fields of knowledge.  There is a collection of objects relating to the female suffrage movement – A small portcullis brooch (known as the Holloway brooch), a WSPU ‘hunger strike’ medal, Suffragette-defaced penny, photo prints and paintings.

Churchill War Rooms

Visit the top-secret corridors of Churchill War Rooms and glimpse what life was like during Second World War.  The underground bunker allowed the Britain’s  leaders to plot the allied route to victory.  Find out how Churchill’s remarkable 90-year life, leadership and legacy from childhood to his military career.

Imperial War Museum – London

The world’s leading museum of war and conflict founded while the First World War was raging.  It gives voice to the extraordinary experiences of ordinary people and examines the continuing influence of war on our world.  Over 100 years of intrigue, deceit and real-life secret agents. Spies, Lies and Deception from WWI to the present day.

HMS Belfast

A visit to HMS Belfast can gives students the unique opportunity of experiencing life on board the ship.  There is also a programme called ‘Kip in a Ship’ where students can sleep on board the HMS Belfast.

St Paul’s Cathedral

During the First World War and Second World War St Paul’s Cathedral was know to be at risk because of it’s dome and the large amount of timer in it’s roof. During WWI volunteers protected the building from air raids by Zeppelins and Gotha bombers. In WWII the cathedral was a target and on the night of 29^th December 1940, around 28 bombs hit St Paul’s during the night.

Art Galleries

Tate Britain, Tate Modern, the National Gallery & the National Portrait Gallery provide for all tastes in art and have excellent Education Departments to help with school visits.

London Eye

Visit the London Eye during the day or after dark and enjoy the spectacular views of London.  The flight lasts 30 minutes and is well worth taking.  

Thames Cruise

See some of London’s most famous sights from the River Thames such as Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, London Eye, the Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe, HMS Belfast and the Tower of London.  Cruise beneath the Millennium Footbridge, London Bridge and under Tower Bridge and enjoy the views of St. Paul’s Cathedral and Canary Wharf from the water.

The Florence Nightingale Museum

Celebrate the life and work of the best know figure in nursing history also nicknamed ‘The Lady with The Lamp’.  Nightingale was the founder of modern nursing and is still an inspiration to nurses around the globe.  

Old Operating Theatre Museum & Herb Garret

The museum is housed in the attic of the early 18th century church of the old St Thomas’ Hospital offering a unique insight into the history of medicine and surgery.  It is the oldest surviving surgical theatre in Europe predating anaesthetics and antiseptics.  Access is through a narrow 52-step spiral staircase.
