Rugby Tous to Rome
About this tour
Do not hesitate to book your trip today: The Eternal City awaits you!
Rome, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, holds its place on the rugby touring map since the Six Nations Championship era started in 2000, with the addition of Italy.
Sample Itinerary
This suggestion is for four days in Rome. If you wish to travel by coach, you will need to add an entire day at either end of the itinerary. As we tailor make each itinerary, we can create an itinerary perfect for you, from the length of the tour to the activities and visits.
A suggested 4-day itinerary might look like this:
- Day 1: Arrive in Rome and check in (suitable youth hostel or hotels available). Walking tour of the country’s sporting roots Colosseum (considered one of the world’s most iconic sporting arenas) and the Roman Forum. Enjoy the first friendly match VS local team and recover with a delicious Roman-style pizza.
- Day 2: Morning guided tour of the Vatican City or visit of Castel Sant’Angelo. Followed by pasta for lunch. Attending a rugby training session with a coach from the Federazione Italiana Rugby.
- Day 3: Walking tour of the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and Spanish Steps. Second fixture against local opposition. Try a real Italian gelato!
- Day 4: Visit some of the beautiful Villas of Rome; Villa Doria Pamphili, Villa Ada, Villa Sciarra, Villa Celimontana or Villa Borghese. Flight back home.
This is an example we would recommend for rugby tours in Italy, but we are able to create bespoke itineraries to another Italian city or any destination you desire.
Suggestions And Ideas for Visits and Excursions
Each group will have its own special interests and curricular needs. That is why every visit can be completely tailored to you. You will find some suggestions below, but you can always call us to discuss more options.
- Colosseum: Once capable of seating 50,000 spectators, the Colosseum is one of the most iconic symbols of the ancient world. The building is still impressive 2,000 years after its construction, and we can arrange guided tours so your students can learn all about its fascinating history and significance to Roman culture. An admission ticket also gives access to the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill, which are both in the same area.
- Roman Forum and Palatine Hill: Both these attractions are included in the same admission ticket as the colosseum. As the centre of activity in Ancient Rome, visiting the site will give students a valuable insight into the day-to-day lives of its citizens. The Palatine Hill gives magnificent views across the city and was once the Imperial residence of Caligula and Nero. We can supply you with a guide if needed, to get the most out of a visit to the ruins. As there is little shade here, we recommend visiting later in the day when it is cooler.
- Trevi fountain: The largest baroque fountain in the world is also one of the most beautiful.
- Spanish steps: At the base of Piazzi Trinita Dei Monti, these iconic steps (Piazza di Spagna) lead up to the Trinita Dei Monti Church.
Other Visits and Excursions
- Stadio Olimpico: Stadio Olimpico is the main and largest sports facility in Rome. It is in a pleasant area along the river Tiber. It is part of the Foro Italico sports complex that was built by the Italian fascist regime, which means a few architecturally interesting structures. Outside football, the stadium is used by the Italian national rugby union team. (Capacity: 70,634 seats)
