Peru the home of ancient temples, mountain ranges and a blend of cultures. The country makes for a perfect destination to visit for a few subjects such as Geography and Spanish. Students will be able to cover multiple topic areas while on a Peru trip.
For students studying Spanish they will get to experience a mix of Hispanic and native cultures in one making for an utterly unique experience and learning opportunity.
When it comes to students studying geography there is so much to explore from hiking the Montaña de Siete Colores to conducting fieldwork/research in the Huascarán National Park. A school trip to Peru is a memory that will stay with everyone for a lifetime.
Sample Itinerary
Peru offers so much variety for your students depending on the purpose and interest of your visit. On average tours are from 7 to 10 days, however we will always try to accommodate the exact number you require.
To help you plan your tour we offer you the following:
- Day 1: Arrive in Lima, transfer to the hotel.
- Day 2: Today you will take an art bike tour in Lima which explores a variety of Peruvian contemporary and street art in the bohemian district of Barranco and Miraflores boardwalk.
- Day 3: Fly to Cusco and transfer to the Sacred Valley. While transferring to the Scared Valley you will stop at the traditional Peruvian Awanacancha Textile center where you will get to see how they turn alpaca, llama & vicuña wool into products. Before arriving at your hotel, you will stop in the village of Pisac famed for its famous vibrant handicraft market.
- Day 4: Start your day with a mountain bike ride through the Maras area, one of the most beautiful areas of the Cusco Andes. For lunch stop for a picnic with the picturesque landscape as your backdrop. By bus in the afternoon visit the Moray archaeological site followed by the salt mines of Pichingoto.
- Day 5: In the morning you will drive through the valley communities of Patacancha and Willoc until you reach the archeological complex of Pumamarca. From there you will take a hike on an ancient inca trail which will take you to the town of Ollantaytambo, known as the only Inca town, that is still alive, where local people still maintain their traditional costumes and live in old stone houses of their ancestors. After lunch, the group will take the train to the citadel of Machu Picchu.
- Day 6: In the morning transfer by bus to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary to learn about this fascinating and mysterious Inca settlement. Optionally you climb to the summit of the Huayna Picchu mountain, from there you will have the best views of the entire Inca citadel. In the afternoon the group will return to Aguas Calientes where you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo where you’ll then transfer by bus back to Cusco.
- Day 7: In the morning with a guide visit the before taking a small 25-minute hike down to the town where you will receive a tour of the iconic sites of Cusco which include San Pedro Market, the Qorikancha, the cathedrals and the main square.
- Day 8: This morning you will enjoy a leisurely breakfast and afterwards you will take a private transfer to Cusco airport and start the journey back to the UK.

- Machu Picchu [G H A G]: Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel built in the Andes Mountain range. The city was built in the 15th century by the Inca Pachacutec. It was voted as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and a must-visit while on your tour of Peru.
- Awana Kancha Textile Center [H C]: Students will learn about South American camelids' history and how they became domesticated and used to produce fibers for Peruvian textiles. The students will also see what processes are done to the animal fibers before getting to see the final products.
- Salt Mines of Maras [H G C]: Salt has been collected from the salt ponds since pre-Inca times. The Incas developed and grew the mines to what you see today. There are now over 6,000 pans with all of them owned by local people.
- Moray [A C H G]: Moray is an archaeological site which belonged to the Incas. It's unusual design consists of several terraced circular depressions. It is theorized to have been used for agricultural and ceremonial purposes.
- Ollantaytambo Ruins [A H G]: Set above the town of Ollantaytambo on the hillside are a set of Inca ruins which used to be a fortress and temple. The historic importance of these ruins is that it is one of the few locations where the Spanish conquerors lost a major battle.

Take the 2-hour hike to the summit for stunning views of the valley below and to see mineralogical composition present on the slopes and summits which made the mountain so famous.
Huascarán National Park

A variety of activities are available to do in the national park which include hiking, wildlife watching, mountain biking, trekking and boat trips. It is also a wonderful place to do research for projects to do with geology, glaciology, and limnology.
Gold Museum of Peru and Arms of the World

The museum houses a collection which belonged to Miguel Mujica Gallo. The gold part of the museum houses pieces found by the Spanish when they came to South America. The arms of the world section have over 20,000 pieces made up of weapons, uniforms, saddles, armor, spurs, and other military objects.
