Visit the First World War Battlefields & the European Parliament

100 years on from the start of ‘The Great War’.

With 3 of the most significant battles of World War I fought round the Ypres Salient, the battlefields of West Flanders are among the most important WWI sites in Europe.

Visit the ‘In Flanders Fields’ Museum in the world-famous Cloth Hall and Hill 60 which is famous for the ‘tunnelling’ war. Stop to see the German Military Cemetery of Vladslo, the most important German cemetery from WWI, and as you walk through the hauntingly peaceful area, look out for the Käthe Kollwitz sculptures Grieving Parents – a heart-rending portrayal of how the war impacted people at a personal level. Also travel to Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery, where some 35,000 soldiers from the Commonwealth forces are laid at rest.

Ypres

In the town of Ypres, the Menin Gate is a memorial of thousands of ‘missing’ British and Commonwealth troops who fell in the Ypres Salient and have no grave. Beneath its arches, the poignant ‘Last Post’ bugle has been sounded at 8pm every night since 1928 (aside from the

German occupation in WWII) proving that while the memories of war might fade, in Ypres they will never be forgotten.

Stay with your group in one of the many splendid hotels in Ypres and sample the culinary delights. Organised bespoke guided tours can be arranged for your group to visit battlefields, cemeteries, and museums around the Ypres Salient, the Somme and Waterloo.

Combine your visit with the European Parliament in Brussels or Strasbourg

Gain a greater understanding of how the European Parliament works and how it benefits you. Visit your MEP in their place of work, see how committees work and how many countries are involved.

Many MEPs use the sponsorship scheme to allow constituents, groups, schools, colleges, businesspeople, and civic representatives to visit the European Parliaments to get to understand how Europe works in more detail.

Our company works closely with the European Parliament Visitors Service and MEPs, and we appreciate how the sponsorship process works.

Rondo Travel has built up an excellent reputation for quality bespoke tours ranging from 3–5-day visits to Brussels, to the longer 5–8-day visits to Strasbourg, all by coach or air.[Please link itinerary]

Rondo Travel can validate over 31 years of excellent performance with endorsements from group leaders and organising offices. In short, we can take away the stress of organising your trips.
