About this tour
From 1870 there was growing support for votes for women. Many local societies were formed and organised many meetings and presented massive petition to Parliament. In June 1914 Emmeline Pankhurst lead an attempt to break into Buckingham Palace and was arrested but released two months later due to the outbreak of WWI.
London is a vibrant Capital city steeped in history, tradition and culture from the West End with its theatres to the City dating from pre Roman times to the arts and culture of the South Bank. There are many interesting and famous places to visit such as the Tower of London, the London Dungeon, the London Aquarium, Hampton Court Palace, the Cabinet War Rooms, Kew Gardens, the London Transport Museum, London Zoo and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1 - Depart school for London. Arrive in London and visit St Paul’s cathedral before your guided walking tour.
Check into your accommodation for 1 night. Evening meal (optional evening excursion, London Eye, The Shard or Theatre Show)
Day 2 - Check out and morning visit to The British Museum. Afternoon visit to Imperial War Museum. Return to school

Britain at War Experience

The British Museum
A public museum dedicated to human history covers all fields of knowledge. There is a collection of objects relating to the female suffrage movement – A small portcullis brooch (known as the Holloway brooch), a WSPU ‘hunger strike’ medal, Suffragette-defaced penny, photo prints and paintings.

HMS Belfast
A visit to HMS Belfast can gives students the unique opportunity of experiencing life on board the ship. There is also a programme called ‘Kip in a Ship’ where students can sleep on board the HMS Belfast.
St Paul’s Cathedral
During the First World War and Second World War St Paul’s Cathedral was know to be at risk because of it’s dome and the large amount of timer in it’s roof. During WWI volunteers protected the building from air raids by Zeppelins and Gotha bombers. In WWII the cathedral was a target and on the night of 29th December 1940, around 28 bombs hit St Paul’s during the night.
London Guided Tours

An exciting and interesting history of London from the bronze & iron age, through Roman times right up to 1914 just prior to the First World War.

Tate Britain, Tate Modern, the National Gallery & the National Portrait Gallery provide for all tastes in art and have excellent Education Departments to help with school visits.
London Eye
Visit the London Eye during the day or after dark and enjoy the spectacular views of London. The flight lasts 30 minutes and is well worth taking.

Madame Tussauds has varied exhibitions including: The Spirit of London, a journey through 400 years in the life of London, The World Stage, meeting our political leaders face to face, Auditorium, a journey into infinity, looking out into space, Chamber Live, the horror section and of course meet all the famous stars of film and sport.
Thames Cruise
See some of London’s most famous sights from the River Thames such as Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, London Eye, the Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe, HMS Belfast and the Tower of London. Cruise beneath the Millennium Footbridge, London Bridge and under Tower Bridge and enjoy the views of St. Paul’s Cathedral and Canary Wharf from the water.
