With the remains of Rome’s ancient past scattered throughout the city, Rome is uniquely placed to offer a valuable insight into the history of the ancient world. From the colosseum to the Sistine Chapel, Rome has so many historically significant and architecturally astounding sites to captivate your students.
With many of the top attractions within easy walking distance of each other, Rome is a great city to explore on foot. Beyond the rich history of the city, modern Rome also has much to offer with fashion houses, top-class museums, and art galleries to suit all interests.
Arrangements can be made to learn more about industries and social sciences within the Italian system, as well as visits to clubs and sports stadiums. Whether it is the ancient or the modern that interests you, Rome offers an excellent destination for a wide variety of trips.
Sample Itinerary
A basic 4-day itinerary. This suggestion is for four days in Rome. To complete this itinerary you will need to fly early on the first day and leave late on the last day, or arrive the night before by air and have an extra hotel night, or if you wish to travel by coach you will need to add a whole day at either end of the itinerary.

- St Peter's Basilica [A |C |H |G]: The world’s biggest Christian Basilica is a must visit during a trip to Rome. You will be amazed by the art and architecture of the Basilica, the Vatican Museum, and the Sistine chapel. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city, so talk to us about planning the best time to visit to minimise queueing.
- Pantheon [A |H |G]: Once a Roman temple dedicated to all the gods of Ancient Rome before becoming the first of its kind to be turned into a Christian church, the Pantheon is one of the best preserved and most impressive monuments of Ancient Rome. This lesser-known ancient church is Rome’s Cathedral and is well worth a visit in addition to the Vatican.

The most sacred of Rome’s seven hills, the Capitoline Hill was home to the Temple of Jupiter and the Triad, so had a huge place in Ancient Roman culture. It was also at the centre of some of the most momentous events in Roman history, from which your students can learn all about right where they took place. The hill is now home to the Capitoline Museum, which has many ancient masterpieces such as The Dying Gaul and the Capitoline She-Wolf.

Both these attractions are included in the same admission ticket as the colosseum. As the centre of activity in Ancient Rome, visiting the site will give students a valuable insight into the day-to-day lives of its citizens. The Palatine Hill gives magnificent views across the city and was once the Imperial residence of Caligula and Nero. We can supply you with a guide if needed, to get the most out of a visit to the ruins. There is also little shade here, so we recommend visiting later in the day when it is cooler.

Back in its glory days this stadium could hold over 250,000 spectators as they enjoyed the chariot races that took place there. Although the ruins have faded with time, this is still a valuable visit for those studying Ancient Rome.

About 20 miles outside of Rome, the beautifully preserved ruins of this port city will give a valuable insight into life in the Roman Empire. Your group could spend an entire day exploring its art, architecture, and history.

Burial inside the city walls was forbidden from the fifth century, so there are thousands of burial chambers underground outside Rome. There are several catacombs you can visit, so talk to us about what would best work with your itinerary.

Accommodation
Accommodation in Rome is very dependent on seasonal availability. We can tell you about the types of accommodation we are able to offer and then be more specific in our quotation, depending on availability at the time of your visit.
We can offer three styles of accommodation:
- There are youth hostels which are typically large and busy.
- There is small privately run hotels of an older style which are very central, but do not have a restaurant so evening meals are taken in nearby restaurants.
- There are modern hotels on the outskirts of the city which offer a comfortable package and an onsite restaurant.
