About this tour
Amsterdam may not be the first destination that comes to mind when thinking of destination to visit for a WWll history tour, it however provides some great opportunities to explore the subject in the city. The city is home to one of the most famous victims of the Holocaust Anne Frank.Her house is now a memorial museum which brings the story of the young girl to life. The tour includes visits which allow your students to learn more about the Dutch Jewish community with visits to the Jewish historical Museum and Jewish cultural quarter. Students will be able learn about the Dutch resistance with a visit to the Dutch Resistance Museum where they will learn about the movement and activities conducted against occupying Nazis.
Amsterdam is also a great destination because of its flexibility you can travel by ferry, train, or plane and due to its proximity to the UK trips can start from as little as one night to if you desire.
Sample Itinerary
We recommend a minimum 2-night, 3-day Itinerary. As we tailor make each itinerary, we can create an itinerary perfect for you from the length of the tour to the activities and visits.
- Day 1: Early morning flight direct to Amsterdam. To start your trip, take a guided tour round Amsterdam’s main sights which include stops at Dam Square, Royal Palace Amsterdam, and Dutch National Monument. After you will head over to the Jewish cultural quarter and have a guided tour of the area. It will include visits to the Hollandsche Schouwburg and The Portuguese Synagogue.
- Day 2: The first visit of the day is to the Jewish Historical Museum which has a collection of 11,000 items covering areas from Jewish culture in the Netherlands to the persecution of the Jews in WWII. Early afternoons visit Anne Frank’s House, the museum takes you through a journey of the young girl’s life a terrific opportunity for students to learn more about one of the most famous victims of the Holocaust. Later in the afternoon take a Canal cruise around the UNESCO recognised Canal ring a brilliant opportunity to see the city from a unique perspective.
- Day 3: In the morning visit the Dutch Resistance Museum which houses an exhibit detailing the activities the Dutch did in the 1930s & 40s in resistance against the Nazis. In the afternoon fly back to the UK.
