Washington, D.C. the centre of power of the United States since its creation, it is full of the country’s young but detailed history.
The city is a great destination to visit to cover several topics in American history from its political history with visits to the Capitol which has housed the country’s senate for the last two centuries to civil rights movement with a detailed exhibition on the topic at the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
The city does not just cover American history topics it can also cover world history topics such as the Holocaust, as is houses the largest holocaust museum in the world.
An interesting visit we recommend is to the Newseum, which allows your students to see how historic events have been reported on through a variety of news media.

Sample Itinerary
We recommend a minimum 4-night, 5-day Itinerary. As we tailor make each itinerary, we can create an itinerary perfect for you from the length of the tour to the activities and visits.
- Day 1: Fly direct to Washington D.C. from London or Edinburgh. Arrive in Washington D.C.
- Day 2: Start your first day in the city with a guided tour in the morning learn about the city and its importance in American history. It will include stops at the White House, Lincoln Memorial, National World War II Memorial and Washington Monument. In the afternoon you will have a guided tour around the home of the United States congress the US Capitol.
- Day 3: In the morning visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum where you will receive a guided tour by one of the 80 Holocaust survivors who volunteer at the museum which includes getting to hear their own personal story. In the afternoon visit the home of Woodrow Wilson the president who led the country through the first world war. Later, visit the National Museum of American Jewish Military History which explores the contributions made by Jewish Americans in American history.
- Day 4: Your day will start with a visit to the National Museum of American History which covers an array of areas about American history from World War two to an exhibit on the first ladies of America. In the afternoon visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture it covers all areas from the arrival of the first African slaves to the struggle for civil rights. Later, visit the International Spy Museum learn more about spying and how it has played a significant role throughout history including during the American Civil war and World wars.
- Day 5: Depending on flight times, spend some free time exploring and enjoying the city before departing back to the UK. Washington D.C. is a great destination to combine with New York to make a dual destination tour with a few days in each city.
